- All children have a right to be safe no matter who they are or what their circumstances
- Keeping children safe is everyone’s responsibility
- We all need to listen to children even though we may not always be comfortable with what we hear.
Definition of safeguarding
- Providing help and support to meet the needs of children as soon as problems emerge.
- Protecting children from maltreatment, whether the risk of harm comes from within the child's family and /or outside the home, including online activity
- Preventing impairment of children's mental and physical health or development
- Ensuring children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
- Promoting the upbringing of children with their birth parents, or their family network through a kinship care order , whenever possibe and where this is in the best interest of the child
- Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes in line with those set out in the Children's Social Care National Framework
Keeping children safe
All staff at Shaw Ridge Primary undertake training in child protection and safeguarding on a regular basis. The Designated Safeguarding Lead and deputy designated safeguarding leads are trained to the highest level of safeguarding, currently level 3. Any concerns about a child will be passed on to a designated safeguarding lead within the School. They will decide whether to speak to Children’s Social Care or the Police. Who will decide whether they need to investigate further.

Designated Safeguarding Leads

If your concern is about a member of staff, an adult volunteer or visitor please report to the Head teacher before leaving the site.

e-Safety
Everyone is using the internet increasingly more everyday. We use the internet at home, school, on our mobile phones, and also when gaming. With the internet being used so much it is even more important that we know how to keep our children safe online.
Within our school, we have strong filters and safety systems on all of our school tablets and school computers. When our children are using the internet, they are always overseen by members of staff. We teach all our children about the importance of keeping safe online through our Computing curriculum

Vodafone has created a magazine called ‘Digital Parenting’ to help parents get to grips and get involved with their children’s digital world.
