Pupil Premium Funding was introduced in April 2011 to support disadvantaged children. It is allocated to low income families who have been on free school meals at some point in the last 6 years and children who had been looked after or adopted from care.

Publicly funded schools in England, receive additional funding from the government to help us improve the attainment of our disadvantaged pupils.
Evidence shows that children from disadvantaged backgrounds:
- generally face extra challenges in reaching their potential at school
- often do not perform as well as their peers
The pupil premium grant is designed to allow schools to help disadvantaged pupils by improving their progress and the exam results they achieve.
The pupil premium is not based on ability. Pupils whom claim free school meals, or who have claimed free school meals in the last 6 years qualify for extra funding.
Funding is also available, to help with pastoral support, for every pupil with a parent who:
- is serving in HM Forces
- has retired on a pension from the Ministry of Defence

Is your child eligible for Pupil Premium funding?
To be eligible you must be receiving one or more of the following benefits:
- Income Support
- Income Based Jobseeker's Allowance
- Income Related ESA (Employment and Support Allowance)
- Guarantee Element of State Pension Credit
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- Child Tax Credit and with an annual income of less than £16,190 and not receiving Working Tax Credit.
- Working Tax Credit 'run on' – the payment you receive for a further four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
