What RE looks like at Shaw Ridge School
What a RE lesson can look like in our school:
- Whole class teaching including opportunities to work individually, in pairs or in groups
- A wide range of activities to help engage pupils with religion and belief in such a way that they are able to reflect upon and formulate their own beliefs, values and attitudes
- A balance between Christianity and other faiths is taught across the school
This is our philosophy:
- To engage pupils in enquiring into and exploring questions arising from the study of religion and belief, so as to promote their personal, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
- To enable pupils to share their own beliefs, viewpoints and ideas
- To promote respect
This is what we do:
- Clear progressive programmes of study are taught, linking core knowledge, skills and assessment
- Discrete RE lessons or links with subject areas across the school
- A whole school focus on Harvest, Easter and Christmas
- Where possible links made with other subjects to enrich learning

- Enthusiastic, engaged learners
- Questioning from both pupils and teachers, using a range of enquiry skills such as investigation, interpretation and reflection.
- Independent and collaborative work
- Range of challenges/differentiation to meet needs of all children

This is how we know how well our pupils are doing:
- Different forms of feedback
- Formative assessment through questioning and challenging during lessons
- Observations of children during lessons
